About the World Funaba Federation

The global governing body preserving and advancing Funaba, the Indian martial art of Manipur.

FUNABA is an indigenous traditional martial art originating from Manipur, India, deeply rooted in ancient warrior traditions and a rich cultural heritage. Derived from a Manipuri term meaning “fight by mutual understanding,” FUNABA embodies the principles of discipline, respect and controlled self-defence — emphasising harmony over aggression.

In today’s rapidly evolving world — where student safety, physical fitness and mental well-being are of paramount importance — FUNABA offers a comprehensive, holistic approach to development. It seamlessly integrates self-defence techniques, physical conditioning, yog and character-building practices, enabling students to develop strength, confidence, focus and emotional resilience.

Fully aligned with national initiatives such as the Fit India Movement and the official CBSE framework for Health and Physical Education (HPE), FUNABA plays a vital role in nurturing well-rounded individuals. Envisioned under the mandatory co-scholastic format, it promotes holistic physical fitness and an active lifestyle while enhancing self-defence skills with a strong focus on women’s safety and empowerment. It is inclusive and accessible to all learners, including Children with Special Needs (CWSN). The World Funaba Federation, along with its affiliated bodies, is dedicated to promoting this ancient Indian martial art on a global platform.

Our mission

To nurture disciplined, responsible and compassionate individuals who embody the values of integrity, respect, service and patriotism. Through traditional martial arts, self-defence, physical fitness and value-based education, we build confidence, leadership, resilience and a strong sense of national pride — guided by the belief that “as long as we live, our Motherland lives in our hearts.”

Our vision

Our vision is “Country First” — to nurture and empower every student to become a responsible, compassionate and productive citizen dedicated to the progress, unity and prosperity of our nation, while carrying Funaba, the living heritage of Manipur, with pride onto the world stage.

“Promoting good health and a sound mind — striving to inspire happiness, harmony and prosperity for all humankind. Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — the world is one family.”
