About Funaba

Funaba is an Indian form of martial arts originated from the Indian state of Manipur. Meities believe that Funaba was originated in pre historic period. When lord Koubru led Gods and Demi Gods to settle at Seloi Langmai Ching, performed Laiharouba (festival of deities) and at the end of it Mukna was introduced and played. This dual Combat is believevd to be the father of all unarmed martial arts today.

World Funaba Federation is an International federation governing the sport of FUNABA.

Principles of Funaba

Funaba Sport

Funaba is a very frolicsome and energetic sport. Funaba is a sport which requires absolute physical fitness and skills to be mastered. It is mainly divided into two parts known as CHANG and LOU.

CHANG

HANG is the part of Funaba which covers the art of combat. This combat is performed by two opponents and the winner is decided on the basis of their score.

CHANG is a non weapon combat. Both the opponents use KHONGLON (Leg Technique) to score the points. The use of KHUTLON (Hand Technique) is limited in CHANG.

LOU

LOU is the part of Funaba which covers the art of demonstration of Combat techniques. LOU requires laudative martial arts patterns skill, high energy movements and distinguished performance skills.

In Funaba sport there are two types of LOU performances.

1. Solo performance (with & without weapons)

2. Team performance (with & without weapons)

Why to learn Funaba?

Funaba is a Manipuri word which means “fight”. Funaba doesn’t only gives training of self defense it also focuses on all round development of an individual physically as well as mentally. Funaba training includes self defense, weapons training, yoga, martial arts, gymnastics, Acrobatics, music and rhythm, Juggling (Concentrating), Multi workout training, fight choreography and also meditation. Other forms of martial arts mainly focus on the movements of upper body and hand movements, due to which the lower body not properly trained and nurtured. Funaba not only focuses on the movements of upper body but it also gives a huge importance to the movements of lower body due to which the body becomes flexible and fully developed. Even when compared to other forms of martial arts, the chances of getting seriously injured are pretty much less in Funaba.

Learning Funaba is very beneficial to teenagers and especially students. By training in Funaba one’s self discipline increases which is very helpful in increasing concentration and focusing on studies.

Funaba training is also very beneficial for children with special abilities.  

Priorities

As the world is changing at a very rapid pace and due to technological evolution virtual reality is slowly taking over a huge area of life, people are giving less importance to physical fitness and mental health.

Therefore WF sees it as a challenge to maintain the physical fitness and mental health of the people. In this challenging environment WF has identified three priorities.

1. To spread awareness and maintain the physical fitness.

2. To nourish the mental health.

3. To teach self defense, for self protection.
